* Low up-front capital requirements.
* Short (under a month) sales cycles.
* Short (under a month) payment terms.
* Recurring revenue.
* Word of mouth advertising.

Bootstrapping might mean passing up profitable sales that may take a long time to collect or stretching your payments for everything you buy. This might mean a decline in “paper” profits but for a bootstrapper, paper profits are not as important as cash flow management.

If you are bootstrapping, you obviously are not sitting on a pile of money. Therefore, it is imperative that you get your product or service to the market immediately. When using this philosophy, you are opting to fix the problems of your product later rather than now.

1. Focus on Function, Not Form. Do not focus on form when it comes to spending money. If you need proper accounting, you don’t need to hire a big name firm. You also don’t need to buy expensive stuff… just functional.
2. Go Direct. Take the opportunity to sell directly to your customers. Only use resellers once you have ensured that your product and service is bug-free. Remember, you have to establish your product on your own.
3. Position against the Leader. As a bootstrapper, positioning against the market leader or going against accepted ways of doing things might be the smartest thing to do.
4. Understaff and Outsource. Overstaffing can cause you a multitude of problems. It is better to understaff and outsource. Do not outsource research and development, marketing and sales. Instead, outsource your routine management functions.
5. Sweat the Big stuff. Save on office space, furniture, computers, and office equipment. However, make sure you spend enough on product development, sales, billing and collection.
6. Execute. The failure to execute can be disastrous to a bootstrapper. To be able to execute, you must be able to set and communicate goals, measure progress, have a point of accountability, follow through until an issue is done or irrelevant, heed reality.

The Art of Partnering

Although good partnering can increase cash flow, accelerate revenue and reduce costs, a bad partnership can very well mean the other way around. Some tips that can help you master the art of partnering:

1. Partner to accelerate your entry into a new area, open up new distribution channels, speed up product development and reduce your costs.
2. Define Deliverables and Objectives. These include additional revenues, reduced costs, new products and services, new customers, new markets, etc.
3. Cut Win-Win Deals. Both partners have to win. Do not enter into win-lose partnerships.
4. Wait to Legislate. Don’t ask for legal advice too early. Legal experts will always give you more reasons not to go through the deal. Agree on business terms on your own before you bring in your lawyers.
5. Put an “Out” Clause in the Deal. The assurance that both parties won’t be trapped into a partnership that is not working actually promotes longevity.

Then, for the 2 mid-tier members, commissions will accrue on a %age slab for 3000 group units. And finally, the group originator is remunerated at the 7000 unit %age slab. These tend to get pretty hefty and generally are high returns once the group achieves a critical mass. What I have described here is a ‘binary model’ but there are various strategies (matrices) designed by various companies to make their compensation models attractive.

Network Marketing: I like Jim Dornan’s philosophy which pretty much sums up the definition of network marketing. He says, “we don’t use people to build the business; we use the business to build people”. Network Marketing uses the MLM model and builds atop it leadership, empowerment and duplication. It takes MLM into the B-quadrant at a personal level and as a B-quadrant business owner a network marketers focus is not as much on product sale as it is on empowering others to align with team structure, leadership principles and network building. The story about it

On a tip by a friend who is part of our tightly knit community of internet marketing professionals , I tried a free press release service .  In the past I have dabbled with various media. But I was wary of press releases because of their sheer intangibility (if free) and cost (if not free).

When at the FPR site, I found a space to ask them a question and so I asked four. Within an hour I got a personal, polite reply. "That’s cool", I thought.

Now here’s the killer…

I posted a release on the keyword "Legitimate online business for doctors". Google the phrase now. When I did – just half an hour later – my release was at #1 position. That’s the picture you see above. Phew!

Making people understand things is very complex. Making people understand is very simple. The complexity is baffling because of its simplicity. Much like this para (!)

Research by various noted gurus establishes that all people can be categorized in four personality types.

1. The Sales personality, which is persuasive and motivating. They want to know ‘why’ something is good (benefit).
2. The Scholastic personality, which is focused on objectives and outcomes. They want to know ‘what result’ will be accomplished (purpose).
3. The Technical personality, which concerns itself with processes and operations. Their driver is ‘how’ anything works (process).
4. The Advocate personality, which is creative, opportunity driven and marketing oriented. Hey get turned on by ‘what if’ there is more to the idea (utility).

Now we usually don’t know who is what type till we have interacted with them. So how do we get our first message home and start off right?

I struggled with this problem even after having read “Personality Plus”, “The Platinum Rule”, “Myer-Briggs” and an assorted few… but finally here is a paradigm that comes to the rescue.

Evidently, people understand anything through a 4-step imbibing process. First, we have an experience. Then we reflect on the experience. Third we form some abstract concepts of the experience. And finally we test those concepts till we get them right.

Let’s take an example. You drive on a curve and almost skid into the side-rail. You have an experience. Next you observe, “whew, that was close… better reduce the speed”. Third, you cut the speed down on the next curve. And finally you learn the right way to negotiate a curve.

That said, let’s see how this applies to getting your point across.

Let’s say I have a concrete point to make to any one reading this. The point is about creating passive income income. So I will address all four personality types in the same sequence as mentioned above. Here goes…

“Well hello, dear reader, how would you like to make some extra money alongside your job? For starters, passive income will safeguard your family from any further financial uncertainty the economy might bring. And then, when you plug in with a few like-minded people doing the same thing, you would be sure you’re getting accelerated learning from others mistakes.
